Milan Dresses Up for Cartoomics 2018

Beatiful Milan is ready to welcome thousands of cosplayers, comic buffs and gamers in an atmosphere which promises to be magic, exciting and adventurous.

Everything is ready for the 25th edition of Cartoomics, the most important comic book fair in Northern Italy, directed by Filippo Mazzarella and organized by UpMarket Srl. Milan gets ready for three days of comics, movies and games, between 9 and 11 of March.

Silver wedding

Cartoomics celebrates its silver wedding anniversary just this year. The convention, second in this field only to Lucca Comics, will take place at the Fieramilano in Rho, reachable from the city center of Milan by subway (red line, M1) and suburban railways (S5, S6 and S11). Among the three pavilions, 20, 16 and 12, the latter, has three brand-new kids, horror and western-themed areas.

The art director Mazzarella describes his convention like this: ‘We invented new things to renew the Cartoomics you used to know. This edition has been designed for a much larger number of visitors, as we reached eight thousand people already last year. Therefore, a greater event needs to be more accessible and comfortable, allowing all visitors to move with calm from side to side’.

Italics Magazine will now lead you behind the scenes of Cartoomics:

Pavilion 20

The Pavilion 20 will be divided into three sections: action, videogames and fantasy. In the action area, there will be the Umbrella Italian Division, the most famous Resident Evil fans and reenactment group proposing zombie live shows, a survival pathway, the make-up area and even a helicopter. The videogames area, sponsored by Sprite, will present contests, challanges, quiz games, free-to-play events, retrogaming spaces, an amazing drone park, and will host some famous youtubers. Furthermore, its fantasy village is entirely inspired by Harry Potter to offer magic moments to visitors of all ages.

Pavilion 16

The Pavilion 16, heart of the entire Expo, will entertain people with board, role playing and card games in a one thousand square meters area with 120 tables. The ‘Out of the Box’ space will be hosting independent authors who are ready to meet visitors and explain them how to make a board game. Another three hundred square meters area is entirely dedicated to Lego, with an exhibition made by the Afdl.it community and a thematic ‘Pick-a-brick’ game space. The other part of the pavilion will host some great editorial names, including Sergio Bonelli editore, Panini Comics (Disney), Astorina, RW edizioni, Bao. Panini Comics will make this edition of Cartoomics even more special by distributing, only inside the expo, a special version of the comic book ‘Mickey Mouse’, serial number 3250, with a variant cover drawn for the silver wedding.

Another important event taking place among the Cartoomics publishing stands, is the seventieth anniversary of ‘Tex Willer’, one of the most famous, appreciated and successful comic books still published by Sergio Bonelli editore, who will proudly organize a celebrating-conference featuring Tex Willer’s scriptwriter, Mauro Boselli, the philosopher Giulio Giorello and the Tuscan journalist Fabio Canessa. Last but not least, Pavilion 16 will display in the big comics area a stand for collectors and the new ‘Cartoomics University’, where subjects like cinema, music, scripts and marketing will be discussed by some specialists in lectures and talks.

Pavilion 12

As mentioned above, this Pavilion is a new entry for Cartoomics and will probably be the most visited one. Here, the Cosplaycity with its stage, the Laser arena, the area Cinema&Home video and the Science Fiction area (where Star Wars is the leading theme), can be found. The new areas will be western-themed, proposing activities and shows set in the old wild west, horror-themed, with the interactive Clown-Horror House and the cast of Epicos, a cosplay team of terrifying clowns, and the kids area, with technological and robotic laboratories, plus some evergreen attractions like slides, bouncy castles, indoor rock climbing and bumper cars.

Finally, the Cosplaycity will be animated by cosplayer contests and performances. It will also offer a parade of original and colored cosplay outfits, including those based on movies and videogames such as Tomb Rider. On the other hand, the Home Video area shows ‘UniVision Days’, a series of classic cinema highlights and future visions, with meetings and debates in the presence of actors and filmmakers. Here, visitors can also enjoy the Movie Time Machine, a mega-screen showing trailers by the World’s greatest film production companies.

A magic atmosphere

Beatiful Milan is ready to welcome thousands of cosplayers, comic buffs and gamers in an atmosphere which promises to be magic, exciting and adventurous. Old and young, adults and children, passionate hobbyists or mere onlookers will experience three days of an old-style entertainment that always manages to look to the future, being able to renew itself and amaze in every edition. Gadgets, fancy dresses, visual effects, drawings, sceneries, battles, cartoons and superheroes are waiting for their fans and players. Finally, as is tradition, on Friday March 9 all cosplayers dressing an outfit get a free pass. Then, what else to say? Keep calm and enjoy Cartoomics 2018!
